Alan Broadfoot

Alan Broadfoot is Director of the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER) at the University of Newcastle. He brings over thirty years industry experience to this role with a commitment to driving innovation and facilitating research partnerships. He is recognised for his contribution to engineering for leading edge technology and innovations in the resources sector. In 2006 he was awarded Engineers Australia’s Professional Engineer of the Year. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and was Chair of the Australian Industry Group Hunter Manufacturing Council from 2004 to 2009. He is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and sits on a number of industry and research advisory committees.

NIER operates as a collaborative based model for critical research in energy and resources, addressing the rapidly emerging issues of resource sustainability, energy system transformation and productivity.
