Mine Subsidence Seminar Newcastle CBD Grouting Strategy Project - Stage 1 Webinar

This event will discuss the results from part of the Stage 1 of the Subsidence Advisory NSW (SA NSW) Grouting Strategy project.

The aim of the project was to devise an efficient strategy (or strategies) to reduce the risk of future instability in the mine workings that could cause significant subsidence impact to high-rise structures within the Project Area.

WSP worked closed with DGS on the development of the models, subsidence risk management plans and grouting strategies over 6 months from late 2017 to mid-2018.

The purpose of the modelling was to assess the following risk management aspects of previous and potential mine subsidence events and verify remediation grouting strategies:

  • The influence of varying lithology, geological structure (bedding/joints/faults) and flooded mine working conditions on pillar strength;
  • The effect of grout mechanical properties and encapsulation variation on confined pillar strengths and post-yielding performance;
  • Buoyancy effects on pillar stress and Factor of Safety in flooded mine workings;
  • Extent and magnitude of subsidence effects due to previous pillar instability and potential for further pillar collapse;
  • The effect of grout properties and encapsulation variation on confined pillar strengths and post-yielding performance;
  • Proposed grouting strategy outcomes (pros and cons)

We invite you to come along to this event to hear from the speakers, provide feedback and look at where to go from here.
