EnergyCo program helps local suppliers tap into NSW’s clean energy work pipeline
Regional businesses will have the chance this November to gain practical tendering experience and industry connections through free one-day workshops designed to prepare them for renewable energy project opportunities.
Businesses across the Hunter, Central Coast and New England regions are being encouraged to sign up for Ready for Renewables: Business Workshops, a new round of free sessions run by EnergyCo and the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).
The workshops are designed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) keen to understand how renewable energy tenders are structured, what buyers look for, and how to prepare strong bids. Each full-day session includes practical exercises, advice from procurement specialists, and networking with major project developers and other regional suppliers.
EnergyCo Director of Regional Coordination Darren Clarke said the workshops were about giving local firms a fair chance to take part in NSW’s energy transition.
“Renewable energy development isn’t just about keeping the lights on, it’s about creating real, sustainable opportunities for businesses in regional NSW," Clarke said.
"These workshops are designed to ensure regional local businesses have the tools and connections they need to compete and succeed.”
Attendees will also learn how to use the Industry Capability Network (ICN) Gateway, including its pages dedicated to renewable energy zones (REZs). The online hub connects suppliers with project leads, helping regional businesses identify upcoming work and strengthen local supply chains.
DPIRD Executive Director Regional Economic Development Ian Smith said the workshops help ensure regional communities share in the benefits of new energy projects.
“The Ready for Renewables: Business Workshops aim to strengthen local participation in the state’s renewable energy supply chains. They’ll learn practical skills, meet the right people, and be better prepared to win work on upcoming projects. It’s all about making sure regional communities benefit from the shift to clean energy.”
Earlier rounds of the program have drawn strong feedback, with 98 per cent of participants saying they would recommend the workshops to other SMEs for their practical content and relevance to real project opportunities.
The sessions are free, but places are limited and must be booked through an Expression of Interest. More sessions are planned for 2026 in other regional centres.
