Inside the network model linking 25,000 workers across heavy industry in the Illawarra
i3Net is a member network of more than 110 companies across the Illawarra Shoalhaven, working to connect businesses, build capability and pursue new market opportunities through coordinated collaboration, training and promotion.
i3net operates as a network of industry based companies across the Illawarra Shoalhaven, bringing together organisations ranging from large national firms to small and medium enterprises and supply chain providers, with a combined workforce of more than 25,000 people.
The organisation positions itself as a strong regional industry network focused on promoting the combined capability of its members to markets at a local, national and international level. It provides a structured environment for businesses to connect and work together across design, construction, fabrication and logistics, with a focus on strengthening relationships and building regional capability.
Purpose centred on regional growth
i3net’s purpose is framed around supporting industry growth and sustainability in the Illawarra through a network that helps local businesses expand their reach and capability.
This includes creating opportunities for skills development, knowledge sharing and access to new markets, contributing to broader economic activity across the region.
Through its network structure, i3net enables companies to form partnerships that combine resources and expertise, supporting delivery across the full project lifecycle.
Events as one pathway to business support
Alongside its broader network functions, i3net delivers a program of targeted industry events that provide practical access to projects, decision makers and emerging opportunities.
An upcoming example is a member visit to the Crudine Ridge Wind Farm, delivered with Squadron Energy and Inside Industry. The visit is designed to give businesses direct insight into how an operational renewable energy site functions, including generation, distribution and maintenance, alongside briefings on procurement pathways and future work.
At a larger scale, the annual Industry Showcase at Novotel Wollongong Northbeach brings together project owners, contractors and local businesses, with more than 200 senior decision makers attending across manufacturing, energy and infrastructure sectors. With EnergyCo supporting the 2026 event, the program is structured to connect regional capability with major project activity.
The network’s calendar also includes its AGM and Industry Night at Wollongong Golf Club. At the 2026 event, members will receive economic insights from speakers including Harry Ottley while maintaining connections across the network.
These activities are one part of i3net’s broader approach, providing a practical setting for businesses to build relationships, understand project pipelines and position themselves for future work.
