NSW REZ tour puts local clean energy careers in focus

A four-stop tour of NSW Renewable Energy Zones is connecting regional communities with clean energy career and training pathways, including $3,000 scholarship opportunities for young people interested in working in renewables.

Hi neighbour web news

People interested in working in renewable energy will have three opportunities to explore local career and training pathways when the Love Your Work tour travels through NSW later this month.

Not-for-profit organisation Hi Neighbour will hold events in Newcastle on 23 October, Muswellbrook on 24 October and Dubbo on 25 October, following the first stop of its four-event Renewable Energy Zone tour in Armidale in September.

The free events are aimed at people interested in the employment opportunities associated with renewable energy development, with Clean Energy Career Chats providing practical information about jobs and training.

Each of the upcoming events also advertises a $3,000 scholarship opportunity for people aged 18 to 24 who want to pursue a career in renewable energy.

Newcastle starts the October run

The first of the remaining events will be held at Jams Karaoke and Bar, 8 Union Street, Newcastle West, from 6 pm to 7.30 pm on Friday 23 October.

The Clean Energy Career Chat will feature Tatum Moore from Indigenous Energy Australia, Robbie Olsen from TAFE and a representative from Flow Power.

The speakers will provide practical advice about renewable energy careers, training and local employment opportunities.

The event will also include information about the $3,000 scholarship opportunity, a screening of Hi Neighbour's short film Love Your Work, an appearance by country musician Fanny Lumsden and a free barbecue.

The Newcastle event runs from 6 pm to 7.30 pm and attendance is free.

Muswellbrook event focuses on local pathways

The tour will travel to Muswellbrook the following day, with a free event at Muswellbrook RSL, 113 Bridge Street, from noon to 1.30 pm on Saturday 24 October.

Its Clean Energy Career Chat will focus on practical advice about career pathways, training opportunities and local jobs in renewable energy.

The Muswellbrook event will also provide information about the $3,000 scholarship opportunity for eligible 18-to-24-year-olds, screen the Love Your Work short film and include an appearance by Fanny Lumsden and a free electric barbecue.

Dubbo completes the tour

The final event will take the program into the Central-West Orana region, with Love Your Work at the Western Plains Cultural Centre, 76 Wingewarra Street, Dubbo, from 4.30 pm to 6 pm on Sunday 25 October.

The Dubbo Clean Energy Career Chat will also include Tatum Moore from Indigenous Energy Australia, Robbie Olsen from TAFE and a representative from Flow Power, providing information about career and training opportunities in the sector.

The $3,000 scholarship opportunity will again be available for eligible people aged 18 to 24 interested in a renewable energy career, alongside the film screening, Fanny Lumsden appearance and free barbecue.

Connecting REZ communities with careers

The October events follow the first Love Your Work REZ Tour event, held in Armidale on 19 September.

Hi Neighbour says its broader work is intended to help people establish and build careers in renewable energy. Its activities include scholarships, mentoring and connections with industry, with a focus on communities experiencing changes associated with the energy transition.

The Love Your Work tour puts that work directly into communities within NSW renewable energy regions, giving people interested in the sector an opportunity to hear from employers and training organisations about the pathways available to them.

Tickets for the Newcastle, Muswellbrook and Dubbo events are free, with registration available through Hi Neighbour.
