SMEs invited to explore $50K R&D voucher support at TRaCE online session
The TRaCE voucher program provides up to $50,000 in matched funding plus access to university facilities, with eligibility focused on early-stage clean energy and recycling SMEs; a webinar later this month will explain the details.

Small and medium enterprises working in clean energy or recycling have an opportunity to secure matched funding through the Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) R&D Voucher Program. The scheme supports early-stage companies that are seeking to advance research and development while keeping costs manageable.
Each voucher offers up to $50,000 in matched cash funding, meaning businesses must contribute the same amount to unlock the full value. The program is designed for SMEs that are based in Australia, with a particular focus on those developing new products, processes, or services in clean energy or recycling. Eligible applicants typically have limited resources and are looking for ways to accelerate their R&D without losing ownership or flexibility over outcomes.
In addition to funding, recipients can access specialist equipment and research facilities at UNSW and the University of Newcastle, along with tailored support to help refine their projects. The vouchers also include flexible intellectual property arrangements, making it easier for SMEs to pursue commercialisation on terms that suit their business model.
To help potential applicants, TRaCE is hosting a webinar on Thursday 30 October from 9:30 to 10:15 AM. The session will explain the application process, cover assessment criteria, and provide examples of how the vouchers have been used by other SMEs. Attendees will also be able to ask questions about their own eligibility and project fit.
Vouchers are limited and applications are assessed as they are received, so early engagement is recommended.
