Tap into NSW Small Business Month for digital, ESG and supply chain insights
NSW Small Business Month in October 2025 offers energy and resource-related small businesses a mix of free and low-cost online events to strengthen digital capability, improve financial management, and understand changing sustainability and supply chain requirements.

Small businesses across New South Wales are being encouraged to take part in NSW Small Business Month this October, with dozens of practical webinars and workshops available at no or low cost. The program, coordinated by the NSW Small Business Commission with chambers of commerce, councils, and industry groups, aims to help business owners learn new skills, connect with others and access support.
“Whether you are looking to build connections, learn new skills or gain insights you are sure to find the event for you,” the Commission said.
For those working in energy, resources, or the supply chain sectors that support them, several online sessions stand out for their relevance to everyday operations and compliance needs.
Managing cashflow and supplier relationships
On 21 October, Suppliers, contracts & debt: protecting your cashflow offers practical steps to manage supplier agreements and recover overdue payments without costly disputes. The NSW Small Business Commission also offers an on-demand webinar, Tools and support: what to do when payments are missed, running throughout the month. Both sessions feature insights from Michael Miller, Director of Mediation, who shares advice for avoiding conflict while keeping business relationships strong.
ESG, sustainability, and industry expectations
Energy and resource businesses looking to improve their environmental and social practices can join ESG Unchained on 16 October. The free monthly webinar helps business leaders “make an impact on people and planet” by understanding the practical side of environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.
Cyber security and digital skills
Cyber security remains a growing issue for businesses of all sizes. Cyber security fundamentals – building a strong foundation (16 October) and Phishing, passwords & patch management – A micro business guide to staying secure (21 October) both address how to prevent data breaches and protect business systems with simple, low-cost measures.
Digital capability is also a theme throughout the month, with sessions such as Everyday AI with Microsoft 365 (14 and 20 October) and Use Google Search Console to drive traffic and sales (27 October). These events are designed to help small operators automate admin tasks, enhance online visibility and improve workflow efficiency.
Practical tax and compliance advice
For trades and resource sector suppliers, Building financial foundations: tax essentials for tradies on 23 October and Essential tax insights from H&R Block on 17 October both explain small business tax obligations in straightforward language.
The NSW Small Business Commission said the program “brings together government, chambers of commerce, industry associations and private organisations to provide meaningful opportunities for the small business community.”
With dozens of events covering digital transformation, workplace relations, finance, marketing, and mental health support, business owners can choose sessions that match their needs. Many are available on-demand throughout October, offering flexibility for those working in the field or on project sites.
