The short course model linking Central West job seekers with REZ employers

A free two-week training program will return to Mudgee and Dunedoo in May, bringing accredited construction and safety qualifications together with employer engagement to help Central-West Orana residents move into entry-level roles connected to renewable energy projects.

EnergyCo, working with the NSW Department of Education and delivery partners VERTO and SKIVL Training and Plant Hire, will run the Renewables Taster Program again in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) in May.

The short course is designed for people who want to explore work in construction and renewable energy, providing practical training alongside recognised qualifications. Previous participants have moved into jobs such as traffic control, civil construction and labouring, and organisers say the program has supported job readiness and confidence for many graduates.

Training focused on site-ready skills

The two-week course will be delivered in Mudgee and Dunedoo and includes a range of nationally accredited units covering safety, traffic management, plant operation and workplace communication.

Participants will complete qualifications such as the construction White Card, working safely at heights, confined spaces training and risk management, along with plant and traffic control competencies. The program also includes a two-day workshop on resume preparation, cover letters and interview skills, with personal protective equipment supplied and travel assistance available for eligible participants.

Linking participants with local employers

The program gives attendees the opportunity to meet employers involved in renewable energy and civil projects across the REZ. EnergyCo notes that local businesses, including Workcontrol Operations Pty Ltd, have supported earlier rounds of the training.

Organisers say this connection between training and employers is intended to help participants understand local job pathways and transition more smoothly into work as project activity increases across the region.

Eligibility and key dates

Applicants must be aged 18 or over, live in the Central-West Orana REZ, have full working rights in Australia and not be enrolled in school, TAFE or university. A pre-employment medical screening and proof of identity are also required.

The Mudgee intake will run from 4 May to 27 May 2026 at Club Mudgee, with registrations closing on 13 March. The Dunedoo intake will run from 18 May to 3 June 2026 at the Dunedoo Bowls Club, with registrations closing on 27 March. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, women and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Prospective participants can register their interest through VERTO by contacting program coordinator Aimee McMillan.
