Organisations and community groups are invited to take part in the upcoming Climate Fresk Summit, to be held on 6 August 2025 at the University of Newcastle’s Callaghan campus. The event is set to bring together around 70 students and up to 30 professionals and academics for a day of learning, connection and practical conversation around climate change, sustainability, and future careers.

The summit will feature a keynote address by Dr Joëlle Gergis, an award-winning climate scientist and lead author of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, followed by the Climate Fresk workshop—an interactive, visual introduction to the science behind climate change.

In addition to the workshop and keynote, the day includes sessions on climate-related emotional resilience, run by ECOMIND, and a networking expo with local and regional organisations, university staff, and community groups.

Organisers are currently inviting expressions of interest from organisations, NGOs and community groups who would like to be part of the networking session, share volunteering, internship or graduate opportunities, or connect with students and staff involved in sustainability and climate research.

The summit is open to students from all disciplines—from law and medicine to design, education and IT—who are curious about how climate issues link with their area of study.

The event is hosted in partnership by People For Nature, the legal representatives of Climate Fresk in Australia, and CIFAL Newcastle, a United Nations-affiliated centre that supports progress towards the UN’s 17 Sustainability Goals. It is supported by the City of Newcastle through the Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Youth Climate Action Grant Program.

Catering is provided, and while the Climate Fresk workshop is currently prioritised for students, additional places may become available closer to the date depending on registrations. The summit offers a low-pressure setting to learn, connect, and explore what meaningful climate action can look like across different fields.

Organisations can get in touch directly to discuss the event via masha.kondrasheva@newcastle.edu.au.
