2026 NZI Critical Minerals and Materials Capabilities Snapshot

The Sustainable Business Hub, the Net Zero Institute (NZI) and the University of Sydney Business School invite you to a discussion on the insights, opportunities and emerging priorities arising from the 2026 NZI Critical Minerals and Materials Capabilities Snapshot.

Building on NZI's 2024 White Paper, The Sustainable Supply of Materials for the Clean Energy Transition, and following the publication of the 2026 Capabilities Snapshot, this event will reflect on key developments shaping the critical minerals and materials landscape. Against a backdrop of evolving policy settings, geopolitical uncertainty, changing market conditions and intensifying global competition, the discussion will explore the opportunities and challenges emerging across the sector.

The 2026 Snapshot highlights the breadth of research capability across the University of Sydney, showcasing expertise, projects and partnerships spanning critical minerals and materials value chains. Since its release, the Snapshot has provided a platform for engagement with industry, government and research stakeholders, generating valuable insights into capability gaps, collaboration opportunities and priorities for future investment and innovation.

The program will provide an overview of the combined strengths of the Sustainable Business Hub and the Net Zero Institute, together with concise insights into current projects, emerging technologies and opportunities for collaboration across the critical minerals and materials pipeline.

A panel discussion featuring leaders from research, industry and government will reflect on key themes and learnings emerging from recent stakeholder engagement, examining global trends, strategic priorities and opportunities to strengthen collaboration and impact across the sector.

The session will provide a platform for engagement and exchange across research, policy and industry to support resilient, sustainable and globally competitive critical minerals and materials value chains.

Networking refreshments will follow the formal presentation from 3:30pm.
