Speaker: Dr Mary Turonek, Principal, Patent & Trade Mark Attorney, Wrays

Dr Mary Turonek has a PhD in Physical and Inorganic Chemistry and enjoyed a 10 year career in research with leading universities in Australia and the United Kingdom prior to entering the patent attorney profession in the late 90s.

In the last 20 years Mary has acted for start-ups, SMEs, universities, research organisations, ASX-listed companies and global multinationals with a diverse range of chemical and engineering related technologies, in particular in the mining, mineral processing, oil & gas and energy sectors.

She has extensive experience in drafting Australian and international PCT patent applications; management and prosecution of patent families in a broad range of international jurisdictions across all continents; patent searching and prior art analysis; freedom to operate and infringement advice; inventorship determination and ownership disputes; successful carriage of oppositions for applicants and opponents; technical support for patent litigation; IP due diligence for ASX-listings and company/technology acquisition; strategic IP advice including for JV partnerships and trans-national IP licensing programs.

Mary is a member of the WA State Government’s Innovation Voucher Assessment Panel, a judge for the WA Business News 40under40 Awards 2022, a member of the Ursula Frayne Catholic College Advisory Council, and an IMNIS mentor for postgraduate students in STEM. She regularly presents IP seminars to industry and professional groups.
