At this event, Adam will provide an overview of the Mt Arthur Coal operation and in particular the recent decision taken by BHP to retain the asset and seek an extension to mining beyond 2026 as part of a responsible mine closure.

Speaker Details: Adam Lancey, Vice President, BHP

Adam Lancey has over 20 years of experience in the mining industry, having held roles in Finance, Business Improvement, Operations and Logistics. In April 2022 Adam was appointed to Vice President New South Wales (NSW) Energy Coal, responsible for BHP’s NSW thermal coal asset from pit to port – the largest in NSW. Adam is currently leading the Mt Arthur Coal pathway to closure in 2030 to ensure it is equitable and responsible for all stakeholders. Prior to this Adam held the positions of General Manager Mt Arthur Coal (2019 to 2022) and Head of Logistics for BHP’s NSW and Queensland Coal operations (2015 to 2019). Adam holds a number of Board positions within the mining industry including Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG). He also is on the NSW Minerals Council Executive Committee.

Adam is a passionate diversity advocate and has been an active member of the NSW Women in Mining Network (WIMnet) for a number of years. In 2016 he was awarded the prestigious NSW Diversity Champion Award by the NSW Minerals Council for his work mentoring women in the sector. He is a strong supporter and promoter of diversity in the mining industry and has participated in the WIMnet mentoring program for the past 4 years.
Adam lives in the Hunter with his young family – wife Kristen and two daughters. Adam is keen to ensure Maddy and Zali have the opportunity to choose as many career pathways as possible, including the mining industry.
