India’s Electric Mobility Transition – An Insight on opportunities for Australian Industry

Austrade invites you to a virtual session to explore the electric mobility opportunity in India.

India provides strong opportunities for Australian auto and mobility companies, and this session will give a unique, insider view of the market to Australian firms, building on Australian interest in India and the success of the 2019 Australian Electric mobility delegation to India. Australian businesses that want to participate in India’s electric vehicle market should not miss out on the insights and opportunities highlighted in this market briefing.

Keynotes will be given by Mr Mahesh Babu, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited, and Mr Vinnie Mehta, Director General of the Automotive Components Manufacturers Association of India.

Through its clean energy policy, India is making a big push for transition to electric mobility. The long term opportunity is vast, with India home to the world’s second largest two wheeler market, fifth largest private vehicle market and seventh largest commercial vehicle market. The Indian Government has an ambitious roadmap for electric mobility, with a target to electrify 100 percent of public transport vehicles and 40 percent of private vehicles by 2030.1

Several companies have started developing ecosystems to support the Government's vision. Examples include firms that have already started designing and testing two-wheelers and three-wheeler vehicles (such as auto-rickshaws). The rapidly changing electric vehicle ecosystem makes it imperative for Australian companies to understand opportunities and establish business relationships with India.
