Orica site visit - Kooragang Island

The site visit will begin with a presentation covering ORICA in general and key site products and processes. This usually takes up to an hour, with questions. Then participants have a quick safety briefing and put on required PPE before completing a site visit of the facility includes an ammonia plant, nitric acid plants, ammonium nitrate plants and a product dispatch facility. Finally, there will be light refreshments and a follow up Chat/Question Time.

This tour allow you to witness Kooragang Island operations and learn about the history and future for the site. Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub is a leading East Coast proposal and well-placed to be the earliest demonstration of success for large-scale hydrogen projects. Orica is partnering with Origin Energy to develop the Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub (HVHH) at Kooragang Island which proposes to deliver a safe, reliable, and commercial-scale hydrogen supply chain in the Newcastle industrial and port precinct. Meeting Point

  • The visit will start at the Orica Security Gatehouse, 75 Greenleaf Road, Kooragang.
  • Please be at the Gatehouse prior to 2pm, for a 2pm start.
  • Visitor parking is available at the entrance, which is sign-posted 'Orica Kooragang Island Gate 1' (the street number is not marked).

Safety / Clothing Requirements

  • It is imperative that all visitors come dressed in full length trousers, full length sleeves and comfortable socks.
  • Orica will provide all other personal protective equipment including safety boots, hi-vis vests, hard hats, safety glasses and gloves. When you register, you will be asked for your shoe size.
  • Tour NOT suitable for people with mobility issues.

Photography is not permitted and electronic devices including phones and garage door openers are restricted on the ammonia plant.
