Renewable energy integration in remote microgrids
This presentation explores the engineering principles, technologies and operational strategies being used across the sector to support renewable integration in microgrids.
The transition to renewable energy presents significant opportunities for remote and isolated power systems, including reduced fuel consumption, lower emissions, improved energy security and lower operating costs. Achieving high renewable energy penetration, however, introduces technical challenges relating to system strength, protection performance, voltage and frequency stability, power quality and asset planning.
This presentation explores the engineering principles, technologies and operational strategies being used across the sector to support renewable integration in microgrids. Topics include grid-forming battery energy storage systems, advanced protection approaches, system strength assessment, operating envelopes and control system architectures.
Drawing on practical case studies from Horizon Power and remote Australian microgrids, participants will gain insight into Hydrocarbons-Off operation, lessons learned during commissioning and operation, and considerations for future renewable-powered energy systems.
This event is produced by the Electric Energy Society of Australia WA Branch.
