White Bay Power Station Engineering Heritage Walk
The tour is run by volunteers from Engineers Australia (EA) Engineering Heritage Community-Engineering Heritage Australia (EHA) and its local division Engineering Heritage Sydney (EHS) and the Electrical Energy Society Australia.
White Bay Power Station was listed on the NSW State Heritage Register in 2006 and underwent extensive works to adapt, reactivate and welcome the public to the Power Station. It is a unique survivor of Sydney’s industrial past and is a prominent and widely recognised harbour landmark and one of the only power stations in the world to retain extensive evidence of its building and technological expansion in the 20th century, preserving its engineering heritage insitu.
You will be taken through significant parts of the building not generally open to the public to gain an insight into the evolution of power generation in NSW, understanding the day-to-day activities of power generation and learn about the boilers, turbines and the building structure.
