Professional Certificate in Essential Practices for Electrical Safety, Earthing, and Lightning Protection
This microcredential course was developed with the support of the Australian Government’s Microcredentials Pilot in Higher Education.
It provides students with a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the design and analysis of electrical safety and earthing systems. Additionally, students will gain in-depth knowledge of advanced protection schemes against lightning.
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Understand and design safe electrical earthing and lightning protection systems for buildings, electrical facilities, and substations.
- Design and assess lightning and surge protection systems and understand how to measure and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Recognize electrical safety hazards and apply safe work practices, in line with Australian electrical safety laws and standards.
These outcomes will be assessed through four assignments and participation, which are mapped to the outcomes.

This course, developed in consultation with industry experts, equips you with skills and knowledge that are highly valued by employers. Upon successful completion, if you apply and are accepted into EIT’s Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering), you may obtain credit for the BEE310 unit.
